She stepped back through the door, locked it with the lightning key, and dropped the key into the bucket of water. Her reflection picked it up, winked, and sank out of sight.
She turned the key in the air. A door opened onto a desert of white sand under a violet sky. At the center: a single crystal pillar, and on it, a single syllable of light, flickering like a dying star.
