Bayan Talbis Al - Jahmiyyah

The gravest deception upon the Muslim ummah in matters of creed is not always open disbelief, but rather talbis – the dressing of falsehood in the garments of reason and piety. No group has exemplified this more systematically than the , followers of Jahm ibn Safwan (d. 128 AH).

Under the guise of defending Allah’s transcendence (tanzih), they emptied worship of its object by denying the very attributes by which Allah describes Himself in His Book and through His Messenger ﷺ. They claimed that affirming Allah’s Hand, Face, or His rising over the Throne implies corporeality (tajsim). In doing so, they abandoned the clear (muhkam) for the ambiguous (mutashabih) and accused the righteous predecessors (al-salaf al-salih) of anthropomorphism.

“And do not mix truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know it.” (Qur’an 2:42)
