In the ecosystem of Content Management Systems (CMS), the mantra is almost religious: Always keep your core, plugins, and themes updated. Updates patch security holes, introduce features, and optimize performance. Yet, there exists a shadow practice—controversial, risky, yet sometimes necessary—known as downgrading .

Downgrading WordPress is the process of reverting the core software (or its components) from a newer version to an older, previous version. While the WordPress dashboard screams for the "Update Now" button, seasoned developers and site administrators know that the latest version is not always the greatest version for their specific, complex, or legacy environment.

wp core update --version=6.3 --force The --force flag bypasses version checks, but it will not fix database mismatches. Downgrading is a trade-off. You solve immediate compatibility but inherit long-term risk.

    1. I felt this was a very Goonies-ish type episode too with a lot of War Games thrown in with that 80s “evil Russian” premise. I’m not sure if this episode was to change up the pacing and direction leading into the final 3 episodes or not? I think with a massively higher budget they are able to take some more liberties and let the scope of their created world take over – so the writing can back off a little.

In the first season – with a minimal budget – the writing had to be flawless or everything would have collapsed. I think they feel they have a little more leeway now.

Thanks for checking this out though!
