“Fine,” he muttered. He rolled over. Now the right nostril opened, and the left closed. It was as if his nose had become a biological level: whichever side was up got the airflow.
He called it the “Lazy Man’s Roll.” For the rest of the cold, whenever his nose plugged up, he’d lie flat, tilt his head to one side like a confused dog, and wait ten seconds. It worked nine times out of ten.
From that day on, Leo became insufferable at parties. Someone would sniffle, and he’d say, “Have you tried lying to your brain about which way is down?” They’d stare. He’d demonstrate. And every so often, someone’s nose would miraculously open, and they’d look at him like he was a wizard.
Then Leo had a ridiculous idea.
On the third night, desperate for sleep, he flopped onto his bed, belly-down, and groaned into the pillow. As he turned his head to the side to gasp for air, he noticed something strange. His left nostril, the one facing up , was completely clear. The right nostril, pressed into the pillow, was still clogged.
Nothing happened for ten seconds. Then twenty. He almost gave up.
And then— pop .
He wasn’t a wizard. He just learned that sometimes, unblocking your nose isn’t about chemistry—it’s about geometry, gravity, and a little bit of delightful self-deception.
