What Are They? The islets of Langerhans are tiny, specialized clusters of cells scattered throughout the pancreas. While most of the pancreas is dedicated to producing digestive enzymes (exocrine function), the islets comprise only about 1–2% of the pancreatic mass but are vital for endocrine function — regulating blood glucose and metabolism.
