Use an enzyme-based drain cleaner (never chemical crystals) to eat away organic lint without harming your pipes.

Does your washing machine take forever to drain? Do you hear gurgling sounds, or worse—find sudsy water backing up onto the floor? You’re not alone. Laundry drains are one of the most overworked pipes in the house.

Insert a drain auger (snake) 3–4 feet into the pipe. Crank clockwise to break up the sludge. Never use a power drill on old PVC pipes.

Use a flexible drain brush or a wet/dry vacuum set to "liquid" mode to extract standing water and surface lint.
