There’s a term I didn’t know I needed until recently: conjugal stepmother . It sounds formal, almost legal, but for me, it simply means “home.”

The “conjugal” part of her role isn’t about being a spouse to my father (though she is that). It’s about the chosen intimacy of our relationship. She didn’t try to replace my mom. Instead, she built something entirely new with me: a partnership based on mutual respect, late-night honesty, and a shared love of terrible reality TV.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
