PhotoImpression 6 is a time capsule. As a standalone editor in 2025, it’s hopelessly outdated. However, as a piece of software history or a lightweight tool for absolute beginners on an old Windows XP/Vista machine, it still works. It does not compete with modern free tools like GIMP, Paint.NET, or even built-in Photos apps. Installation & First Impressions Back in the day, PhotoImpression 6 was the king of “bundled software.” You found it on the CD-ROM that came with HP scanners, Canon cameras, or Lexmark printers. Installation from an original CD is straightforward on Windows XP/Vista/7. On Windows 10/11, you will likely need to run it in compatibility mode (if it runs at all).
