"Yes. Sound stands over the sun. Light does not speak. Sound gives light a voice." She pauses. "But also… listen." She closes her eyes. The class fidgets. Ten seconds pass. Twenty. A student raises a hand
She bows to the empty room, slides the door shut, and leaves the silence to teach itself.
Suzu dips her own brush once, then draws a single line on a scrap of paper: a horizon, not quite straight. She places it next to his jagged attempt.
"Today," Suzu says, her voice soft but clear as a temple bell, "you will write the character for oto — 音. Sound."
