He tilted his phone screen. A 360p CCTV clip from a seaside arcade played in a loop — pixelated, ghostly. A figure in a dark hoodie walked behind the victim near the clock tower at 2:17 a.m. Three minutes later, the victim stumbled out of frame alone. Then a flash. Then nothing.

By 6 p.m., the pieces slotted together like a tide coming in. A retired detective named — now a resident in the same care home, two doors down from Iris — had confessed to a nurse on his deathbed last month that he’d taken bribes to bury Leanne’s case. “Unless the killer took it as a trophy.”

“Could be,” Med replied. “Except his jacket pockets were turned inside out. And his watch is gone. Cheap Casio. Not worth stealing unless…”
