Then, disaster. A Chitauri leviathan corpse, left over from the battle and still carrying unstable energy cores, fell from a cargo helicopter. It crashed directly onto Captain America’s position. Steve was buried under 40 tons of alien flesh and twisted metal.
Three weeks later, a rogue AIM cell hit a Stark facility in Belarus. The Avengers deployed. Tony stayed in the tower, running remote support.
The XTM Avengers 1.8 never went to market. Tony built exactly seven units—one for each original Avenger, plus a prototype for Fury (which he promptly “lost” in a drawer). It became the unspoken bond of the team. When Thor went to Asgard, his unit kept a slow pulse, waiting. When Natasha went dark, her unit’s signal was the only thing Fury trusted.
But the XTM Avengers 1.8 units flickered. Their arc batteries hummed louder, compensating.
